Polyglot Conference 2023
The Polyglot Conference is an international event for language lovers, held each year in a different location. This is an in-person event where participants share their passion for languages and cultures through talks, social events and other activities.
Some talks are themed around a particular subject, while others take into account the languages and culture of the year’s venue. You can also follow the event online via livestream and get access to recordings afterwards.
The Polyglot Gathering
Whether you’re an expert in multilingualism or just curious, the Polyglot Gathering is a great place to meet like-minded people and connect with them in person. The event features live talks in a variety of languages on a wide range of language-related topics. You can watch these talks as many times as you want for up to a month after the event.
More than anything, though, the Polyglot Gathering is largely about community. It’s a place where your interest in Icelandic isn’t met with raised eyebrows but with an enthusiastic “OMG! I want to learn that too! Do you have any tips?”
The Polyglot Gathering was founded in Berlin, Germany in 2014 by Judith Meyer and Chuck Smith. After three editions, it moved to Bratislava, Slovakia and then to Poland. It’s currently organized by the non-profit organization Education@Internet, with Peter Balaz as its head organizer and a team of dedicated volunteers. The event has also held online versions during the covid pandemic.
The Polyglot Conference
The Polyglot Conference is a conference for people who love languages. It features speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities. It is primarily a virtual conference, but it also hosts in-person events. It has a number of themes, including motivation and learning at the intermediate level.
A polyglot is a person who speaks many languages, usually more than 10. These people are highly motivated and spend a lot of time studying their target language. They are also less inhibited about speaking in their target language in public. Some famous polyglots include Cleopatra and Nikola Tesla.
This online event features talks from various polyglots and linguists on language learning techniques. It is a great resource for language learners, teachers, and professionals. It was created by Kris Broholm from Actual Fluency and is open to anyone. The talks are recorded and available for free for 36 hours after the live presentation. They are also available on Italki. This paper surveys existing systems for polyglot data management classified as multi- or polystore tightly utilizing systems for processing or as data integration solution.
The Polyglot Games
A cacophony of camouflage uniforms and civilian clothing framed by flashy pop culture placards greeted competitors at the 6th annual Polyglot Games, an in-person language competition hosted by the Utah Army National Guard’s 300th Military Intelligence Brigade (Linguist). Designed to showcase military intelligence linguists’ functional and operational capabilities, the games were a challenge by, and for, the best linguists supporting the nation’s intelligence enterprise.
Among the 44 participants, teams of seven from U.S. Army South and 470th MI BDE placed 13th and 16th, respectively, demonstrating their outstanding linguistic skills and cultural knowledge in a simulated operational environment. Their accomplishments highlighted the importance of the linguist community’s mission in support of the national intelligence enterprise.
